Original diorama of the Battle of Rorke's Drift constructed by Bill Cainan, retired head curator of the Royal Welsh Museum in Brecon. The diorama depicts the climax of the battle around the hospital and storehouse buildings. The scene represents the moment when the Zulus have overrun the barricade in front of the storehouse, forcing the defenders back to the improvised dog-leg barricade at the corner of the hospital, and are attempting to break a way in across the veranda. Meanwhile elsewhere the defenders attempt to meet rushes probing the other barricades; the final redoubt has not yet been completed. The diorama is solidly built on two adjoining 2' x 2' boards, includes over 100 figures at 40mm scale.
