Horace Smith-Dorrien dismounted and attempted to bind the wound of a Mounted Infantryman when Major Smith of the Royal Artillery, descending behind him, cried out that the Zulus were descending behind him; Smith-Dorrien survived, but both Smith and the Mounted Infantryman were killed.
