Beautiful sterling silver goblet weighing 8.5 ozs produced in a limited edition in 1979 to commemorate the Centenary of the Anglo-Zulu War (please see original brochure listing). The goblet is a perfect replica of a cup presented to the Regimental Mess of the 1st Batt. 24th Regiment by Lt. Teignmouth Melvill on his promotion in 1868; the 1/24th, of course, later fought at iSandlwana in January 1879, where Melvill was killed attempting to save the Queen's Colour of the battalion. He was later awarded the posthumous Victoria Cross.

The goblet is inscribed as per the original with Melvill's presentation details and with the Regimental badge. It is in excellent condition and comes in a fine wooden presentation box. It is hallmarked for 1979. Goblet is 7.5 ins tall, box is 14 x 4.5 x 3 ins.

The goblet cost £240 on release in 1979 - over £1200 in current values. These centenary commemoratives almost never come on the market.
