Offered here is "Battle of Ulundi" Clash of Empires Exhibition Artefact Painting By Ethan Burkett, Artist-in-Residence. The canvas is 20cm x 25cm and executed entirely on-location at the Clash of Empires Exhibition in London, July 2023.
The painting is an artistic interpretation of one of the exhibition's artefacts (pictured with this listing) - featured in Chapter 9 of the exhibition, a photograph of the hillside looking towards oNdini taken on 4 July 1879. Slow exposure times meant that almost no photographs could be taken of the war in progress; this is one exception. Taken from the British camp across the White Mfolozi River on 4 July 1879, it shows smoke from the Battle of Ulundi, centre, and from the burning of the oNdini royal homestead.
Ethan will sign and inscribe the painting for the buyer.
All proceeds from the sale of this painting benefit the Clash of Empires Exhibition and the exhibition's host museum/charity, The Royal Philatelic Society London.
