Ken Trotman paperback reprint of Guy Dawnay's military diaries. Dawnay was a gentleman adventurer, the fourth son of Viscount Downe, who joined the Anglo-Zulu campaign in a sense of sport. He was attached to the Natal Native Contingent and fought at the battle of Gingindlovu and Ulundi. His diary is detailed and vivid and full of sharp observations which bring his experiences to life. He later went on to serve in the Egyptian War of 1882 and the Suakin campaign in the Sudan, and his account of these takes up the later part of the book. This edition is hard to find now; paperback, good condition.
