A good 19th century Zulu fighting knobkerrie with a large head with a shallow dish on top; these depressions were often used as a receptacle for taking snuff (snuff would be poured from a gourd into the depression, then taken in a pinch by the figures). Snuff might also contain powdered protective medicine to be taken before battle. A good atmospheric piece, overall length 28 ins, patina little scuffed and aged.
