An interesting elegant wooden staff/walking stick was cross-T motif at the top in two-tone wood. This has been converted into a gentleman’s walking stick with the addition of a ferule at the bottom, and there is a hallmarked silver band around the shaft engraved ‘Zululand 1879’. The ends of the ‘T’ appear to have had silver mounts; one is missing, the other is marked ‘July 1884’. This is presumably a souvenir brought back by an officer from Zululand; genuine items marked with a reference to the war are rare. In good condition, nice patina, overall length 31 ins.
