Excellent original 1879 Zulu regimental war-shield, (isihlangu) in the colour of the uKhandempemvu (uMcijo) regiment, who played a prominent part in the war, being present at most of the major battles including iSandlwana. In very good condition, little hair loss or damage. Length to top of stick is 61. 5 inches, hide is 49 x 26 inches. Original period war-shields are very distinctive and increasingly difficult to find - a rare and striking piece.
