Original Carte de Visite Photograph - Alfred Henry Hook VC
Original CDV photograph of Pte. Alfred Henry Hook who, as a member of B Company, 2/24th, was awarded the Victoria Cross for his gallantry during the defence of the hospital at Rorke’s Drift where he famously fought from room to room; he is wearing his award in this photo. Hook received his VC from Sir Garnet Wolseley at Rorke'e Drift in August 1879. This is a scarce image of Hook in uniform shortly after the war's conclusion and wearing his medal. This CDV was only reproduced a few times. The image is a little faded with slight spotting but remains otherwise fresh and clear. Dimensions are 4-inches x 2.5-inches.
