THE GUTHRIE SAGA by Andrew Guthrie MacDougall
Interesting little book based on the family papers of two generations of the Guthrie family, including a diary of the Zulu War and of the fall of Singapore in WW2. The AZW material comprises the account of Andrew J. Guthrie, a sergeant in the 90th Regiment who served with Wood's column. It includes some refreshingly honest observations on life in the Victorian Army - including the revelation that during a night alarm the 90th would hurry to their posts with equipment buckled over their shirts, but no trousers, since they took too long to pull on! Interesting and revealing. Hardback, 187 pages. Very good condition apart from a repaired nick to the dust-wrapper.
