The 1969 University of Natal Press edition featuring the colour sketches of John North Crealock, Lord Chelmsford's Military Secretary, edited by R.A. Brown (limited edition - no. 287 of 1000). Crea;ock, whatever his failings as a staff officer, was a talented artist and sketched his surroundings throughout the war, including such delights as 'From My Tent Door, Isandlwana 21 January', 'Hill of Isandlwana', various views around Rorke's Drift and Helpmekaar, and the battles of Gingindlovu and Ulundi in progress. This is a rare and sought-after book, large format (17 x 11 ins), with pictures reproduced in colour where they were originally painted so. There are some minor chips to the dust-wrapper, a previous owner's name-plate, and tape marks on the end-papers but otherwise it is in very good condition.
