Zulu throwing spear, isijula, taken as a British trophy, and with ‘Taken at Ulundi, July 4 th 1879’ deeply and carefully incised into the shaft. Good condition relative to age, overall length 47 ins. The carving is clearly quite old, likely period executed and matches the style of other similar battlefield pickups/souvenirs by soldiers from the Anglo-Zulu War we have examined over the years. A very fine piece!
